I have recently left my job at QVC shopping channel, to take up the role as a web designer in the marketing team at Datamonitor. Below are some of the work I have done at QVC and you can see other work I posted last year here

Bespoke pages

This was a feature showing different applications of make-up using members of staff at QVC. Decided to break away from the usual grid layout that is often seen on the QVC website.

Just finished work on a new website last week for a new up and coming Interior Decorator and Artist Sunita Hoorpah. The site uses a clean and minimalistic style to tell the user what Sunita is about and to showcase her talents. Design work – QVC shopping channel

I have been working at QVC shopping channel (UK) for nearly a year and a half now, and have used the opportunity to not only expand my CSS and XHTML, but also my Photoshop skills. Working alongside the photography department sometimes required photo retouching. A lot of this was self taught, but the company also sent the design team on a PS advanced course.

Header panels

The design’s team everyday creativity was shown in the homepage, which was updated everyday along with the department page for each product area. This involves designing panels which linked though to the different areas of the site and a hero image which would be showing a promotion, or promoting a brand for that day or week. This is a typical layout of a department page (left), our designs would have the right side to work on so that a strap line and copy could go on the left side.

Brandshops

Brandshops are areas of the site where the company had specific pages dedicated to some of the big selling brands. This also included about pages, and user guides. When designing these pages, we often had to adhere to a style guide of that particular brand while making it work within the QVC site.

New website!

I have finally managed to finish redesigning and rebuilding my website. Upgraded myself from the static HTML and CSS site to one driven by WordPress. Originally I had planned to build my own template from scratch, but thought “baby steps first…” so looked for a pre-built one, with the intention of modifying it to look and work the way I wanted it to.

I came across a free template that was available for download from a Chinese designer called yichi. Taking the original dark theme, I have completely changed the colour scheme, and changed and amended the CSS (keeping the same IDs and classes) while keeping the structure and certain elements of the site. I also added additional plugins such as cformsII for the contact form.

There were a few little bugs I had to iron out, so that the site met W3C standards (and I got the green tick in my HTML validation tool bar!). I had a free blog on wordpress.com containing my work done in my fulltime job, which I was able export and integrate with this wordpress.

I have added a lot of my recent freelance work, dating it at the time the work was completed, and created portfolio pages containing a select few pieces. If you find any bugs, or problems with the site, please let me know. I’m expecting a few problems to come up but will not know what they are until I get a few users to test it out

Sorry for links and images not working on previous posts. Currently in the process of changing servers, and redesigning the main site. Going to get my hands dirty and create a WordPress template. So as soon as it is all sorted I will let you know.

Mayo Maker site re-design

The original Mayo Maker site that I designed a back in 2006, is now going through a redesign. Under construction is live at the moment, with links to a flash gallery which I built using the component Slide Show Pro. The main site will probably be built in Flash as this suits the client better.

Global Properties

Global Properties is a sister site to Global Sales Force offering services to the general public. XHTML/CSS all built and ready, just awaiting content. The slideshow that will run on all the pages, uses Flash and XML. Grey box on the right is for case studies, but rather than do the javascript, was thinking of implenting flash, using it in a way that is more pleasing to the eye.

Instant Access Properties Christmas card

Given the task of designing a Christmas Card for the company so decided to do a bit of illustration. Originally this was going to be sent out as an emailer but the brief changed, and had to be a link to a Flash animation.

Global Sales Force

This is my work in progress design for a website called Global Sales Force. Done the tabs using a nice little tutorial I found on the web. I would post the link if I could remember the site (sorry!). This was an in-house job which is still waiting for content.
